Hey, everyone! Hope you all are having a fun Friday (I hope it's still Friday most places... :D). I figured I should probably put a general overview of MY current plan/idea somewhere, and this seemed like the right place (since this subreddit IS for the game xD).
If you want to know how this started, look here for the comment thread on /u/Bytewave's story! It started with a picture by /u/ArtzDept.
Also, holy CRAP getting /u/Gambatte to post in a subreddit gets a lot more people than I expected to show up, haha.
Overview:
So I'm thinking of 4 or 5 different games that I would like to make based on TFTS. These are listed in order of least technically difficult to most technically difficult. * Text only. I've thought of 2 different types. The first is similar to Notch's Game. The second is basically exactly what /u/Gambatte did in Twine. These types of games can be finished in a night or so. * Point and Click Adventure. This is pretty self explanatory, I think. You could make the "fun" of the game different ways. Maybe you progress through puzzles, or combat, or a mix, or maybe you can choose which way to go. Who knows? This category would be doable (without a backing story of quality, probably) in a weekend. * decent-graphics-fidelity-game. This one isn't as self explanatory, haha. There are a few different game modes/types/genres that I think you could make fun with TFTS. I think something similar to Pokemon (walk around and battle with tickets in time-frozen, static, ability-based battles), Metroidvania (differentiated by having real-time combat in the exploration zone instead of in a time-frozen "battle"), Final Fantasy Tactics (differentiated by having a team instead of just one, turn-by-turn ability based combat generally characterized by at least SOME problem solving/strategy), or similar. This category would be doable (poorly, I think) in a weekend or so; it would be a month, probably (cause real jobs D:), to do it well. * MMO. This is more of an add-on to the previous tier that adds fun and (a lot of) complexity. This would most likely take quite a while (I'm not comfortable saying how long as I really don't know) to finish. Luckily it could be done as a new game over the same base as some of the "decent-graphics-fidelity-game" games.
I'm probably going to end up making each one of these games because it's fun and I enjoy it. Who knows when I'll get any of it done, though, haha.
Where to Go From Here:
I'm not really sure, honestly. I don't know how many people are interested in helping or even how much help I would want/need (definitely depends on what type of game we want to make). I'll probably be discussing mechanics of specific versions soon (there is some discussion in the original comment thread) to get some input. And I definitely always love hearing what other people think.
Let me know what you guys think about this and if you have any questions!
