I think one of my biggest gripes with Skyrim involves the requirement of a crafting table for potion creation. I get the design choice, I just feel it's inconsistent with the way the games have been up till now and find it. a little frustrating that I can't just mix poisons and potions on the fly in a cave if I find some open space or a mortar and pestle.
But this table straight up made all that go away. I go to the Breezehome, crack open the Apothecary Satchel, take all, flip through my current potion/poison list, find something I need in the chart, then crank out potions and poisons like it's nobody's business.
I can't decide if this makes it more or less immersive, as all I feel I'm doing is reading a chart that could easily find its way into the game in some way. Plus, once you've discovered the majority of the ingredients, the UI takes over and makes it easier from then on to put the right ingredients together.
But it does require an external source and takes away a little of the thrill of discovery ("Holy crap, this cheap-ass skeever tail does THAT?"). I just can't decide.
Sidenote: Enchanting, however, is amazing. Never did it in a TES game before. I do it every time I find new armor in Skyrim.
