"I'm not from around here, but, you know, I heard the stories about Black Summer- God, it feels too soon to talk about it like that. The scent of smoke, ringing through the air- it was difficult to breathe. The bushfires earlier this year really impacted people here.
Our communities need help to be rebuilt. They need love and support from our federal government. What they don't need is money being sent off to the Pacific instead of helping Australians.
Climate change, of course, contributed to the devastation, but again, Australia does not need a Pacific Union to take action on this. If you think that Tonga and Samoa are the problem, you are barking up the wrong tree. They've been the ones urging us to take action.
What we, as Victorians, need, is investment in our communities and futures. The Pacific Union won't help us. What do we, honestly, have in common with Fiji and Samoa? Not a whole lot. If the KAP is elected, there will be a party in the Pacific Union to hold the establishment to account.
We'll fight for you. The average Aussie battler doing it tough. He gets by. The government should help him, and his community, to rebuild, instead of sending taxpayer dollars overseas. Because that's not the Australian way.
Australians are battlers, we've gotten through a lot. We don't need the government to kick us while we're down and send more and more money overseas to build roads in Rarotonga, we need them back here, in Australia.
So please, I am asking you this election to vote for the Katter's Australia Party, for a better Australia, and, indeed, for a better Pacific Union- one without Australians."
