My name's model-amn, and very soon, voters here in Vanua Levu and Fiji will be preparing to vote in Pacific Union elections. This is a turning point for our country, make no mistakes, for whoever controls the inaugural Pacific Union parliament will decide many key things. They will be in the driver's seat, negotiating trade deals, treaties, writing laws.

The Pacific Grouping, of which the iTaukei Party is a member of, is formerly known as the Values Grouping, and we will stand for Pacific values. One of the key things that is important is preserving our languages and culture. This is something important that we must do, we need to make sure that our languages are preserved and accessible.

The Pacific Grouping will also set aside funding for preserving our culture. Think of, say, Polyfest in Aotearoa. These are the sort of things we want to back, things that spread knowledge of Pacific cultures and which help keep them alive.

As a Christian woman myself, I understand the importance religion holds to many people. While of course ensuring that the church and state keep a safe distance, we should be ensuring that churches and the like are properly funded and that island residents have a place to worship.

As Pacific peoples, we have endured continuous onslaughts from zealous colonialist regimes, who would seek to wipe out our culture and traditions and our language. The Pacific Union can help us preserve all of these.

It is important that we ensure that a party with values and morals is elected, a party which has the guts to stand up for Pacific culture instead of preaching to whites in Australia and New Zealand. We need a party which knows how to properly shape the Pacific Union. So please, vote Pacific Grouping."
