Growing up in middle school and high school, I read news articles about Millennial trends like selfies, Snapchat, skinny jeans, Starbucks, Tumblr, avocado toast, and I felt like they were referencing me and my fellow 1999/8 peers. I identified with being a Millennial — growing up without smartphones yet suddenly seeing it take us by storm — but I do recognize that I’m on the cusp of the generation. Yet in recent years everyone started calling us Gen Z’ers. No, I didn’t grow up with Tiktok and all these fashion trends and slang, I’m only seeing it now as an adult and not participating in it.
Edit: I’m not saying that I’m NOT a Gen Z’er (so stop arguing that I’m Not Actually A Millennial), but that it’s weird to shift generation labels over my lifetime. That’s all this post is about.
