Hi Friends,
I bought a G14 from best buy last week and had some questions about the performance I have been seeing with it. I was playing Halo a few nights ago with friends on my external monitor (Dell S2721DGF using a USB-C to Display Port cable), was playing at 2K on high settings and everything was working out fine. Then last night I tried to play again on high settings at 2K, and whenever my friends would invite me to a game, my game froze and the only way to turn the game off was to restart my laptop. I tried this with other games and continued to have my game freeze when invited to a game (I was able to use the my laptop still, just on the laptop display, not my monitor). After turning down the display settings on Halo to medium everything worked out fine, but I only got about 80FPS on average, which is what I was getting at high settings. I don't think I have any issues with my monitor or cable because I used both with my last laptop (Razer Blade 15" 8th gen intel i7 with NVIDIA RTX2060) and was able to play on them just fine, but that was at 1080p.
My questions are:
Why did high settings work just fine on my laptop a few days ago, but then last night my laptop was not able to handle the load? Both times I had nothing running in the background.
Should I expect to only get medium graphics settings at 2K with 80FPS with this laptop? I kind of expected more when I bought it, but that could have been a misinformed expectation.
If my laptop should be performing better, can someone guide how to get that better performance out of my laptop? When playing I had my MUX switch off with my fan settings at turbo.
My Specs:
ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" WQXGA 120Hz gaming laptop- AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS - 16GB DDR5 memory - AMD Radeon 6800S - 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
