So I've had my 2023 G14 (7940HS 4060) for a few months now and immediately upgraded the RAM to 32GB and drive to 2TB.
To be honest I don't really use my laptop at home as I have a desktop, though older, that still runs the occasional triple-A game respectably at medium high-ish settings. I typically use laptops when travelling, and mostly for average tasks like web browsing and the occasional low-yield adventure game.
These past few days I had the laptop with me on my holiday visit with my family in the suburbs, and decided to install a few games from Steam to play while I was there. Those games were Returnal, Call of Duty MW 2019 and Nex Machina. The latter two aren't as punishing to hardware as the first, but they are definitely a pretty good test of higher end hardware.
Let's just say I was not only blown away by the performance of the games--Returnal ran flawlessly at just under 2K resolution with nearly all settings set to either High or Epic, and MW 2019 running at over 110FPS with most of the settings maxed out for a silky smooth experience, but my memory and CPU hungry Firefox just flew. Everything was just snappy as hell and the laptop easily outclasses my still-relatively-good i7-3770K with RTX3060Ti and 32GB RAM desktop.
It outclassed my desktop so much in fact that I'll probably switch to it as my daily driver. I have the oft-mentioned IETS cooler and I've just ordered a KVM switch for my peripherals from Amazon.
The last gaming laptop I bought was a first generation Alienware M17 ages ago and that ran me over $4,400 CAD back in 2008. I'm just amazed on how inexpensive gaming class laptops have become (I bought my G14 as open box item from Best Buy for a pretty good price).
All in all, this thing is a fantastic value for the money. Time will tell on what degree this thing will disintegrate over time, but I'm pretty sure I'll be good for at least five years with it.
