I've been encountering a bug where the bottom three players with the grey squares on the main roster don't register a game played. This went on for two seasons but at the start of the third, those players started registering games played, or at least recording stats. I made a bunch of roster updates, and no changes. Suddenly the problem turned up again. Don't remember exactly what happened, but I think I might have brought some players up from the minors? I tried putting my roster the way it was before and had the same issue. (edit: Also the last player in the light blue doesn't register a game played/stats)
I've also had another problem, which was pointed out, where my main roster backup doesn't play, but instead the starter for the minor records games.
A few suggestions/quips:
1) Potential seems to be way too large of a factor. There was a free agent (age 19 or 20) with an overall rating of ONE and a potential of 72, and he was asking for $2.5M in free agency. With a rating of ONE and 0 NHL games played (after attribute growth, he jumped up to a whopping 2 overall). I don't think players should be demanding anything above $1M unless they have an overall rating of at least 30. Or maybe overall and potential should never be that far apart.
2) Trading effectively is almost impossible, and the computer seriously overvalues draft picks...well, their own draft picks. It's incredibly difficult to rebuild through trades. I tried trading a 75 overall player (age 32 I think) via the "trading block", and the best offer I could get was a 4th round pick. If I try trading for a Cup contender's first round pick using the "what will make this work" option, they always ask for my best young player in addition to my first round pick. Also, if I try to trade for a computer pick, they always ask for my pick in the PREVIOUS round in return. For example, if I ask for their 3rd round pick, they ask for my 2nd round pick. It's almost impossible to improve your team via trading.
3) On that note, a trade deadline would be neat. It'd be a good way for rebuilding teams to unload the players they are soon to lose, and Cup contenders to make a run.
4) Some player attributes are funky. "Rebounding" is a stat, which I imagine was kept from the basketball. Is it supposed to be shot blocking? Player key skill indications (Ss, Di, etc.) also have some basketball terms (i.e. Di = interior defender). Attribute ranges are also strange. Lots of players have multiple "100" or "0" ratings, and I find it hard to believe that several players would simultaneously be the literally best in something and the worst at something. It's also odd when a player has a 0 rating in competitiveness and a 100 rating in toughness, or a 0 rating in speed and a 100 rating in quickness.
Still, awesome game, I love it. There's definitely some fun chemistry stuff that makes the game seem real. I'm not sure what all the attributes do and how they play with each other, but it's fun. There's also exciting runs. My 8th seed team made it to the finals (lost in 7) the year after a rebuild which was fun and surprising. Thanks for an awesome game!
