Can't get Mamoru and Minamo's special Shigabane

Hey.
Anyone have this problem or know what I'm doing wrong? I can't trigger their Shigabane for feeding kids of the opposite gender.
This is what I do for Minamo:
- Make main party all boys.
- Put a jerky stack in Minamo's inventory.
- Click the jerky in Minamo's inventory, so its tethered to my mouse, then click each boy's portrait to feed them, without putting it in their inventory.
- Click back on Minamo's inventory slot to put down the remaining jerky.
- Kill Minamo.
And I get nada. Same problem for Mamoru and a girls team.
