After recently starting the show, I’m currently watching the episode when Sheldon researches religion following his mother catching him play Dungeons and Dragons, and it really bothered me when Tan tells him Catholics don’t believe Jesus is God, “he’s the son.”
Catholics, like Protestants (“Christians”), do believe Jesus is God. Yes he’s the son of God, but he’s one part of three in the Trinity: God the Father, GOD the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three in one: one god, three aspects. The only offshoots that don’t believe Jesus is God are Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons.
Also, I wish he had elaborated on the “we pray to Mary” bit. Catholics don’t pray to Mary as an end point; they ask her to use her favor with God to speak to him on their behalf.
“Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners.”
It’s like asking your pastor to pray to God for you because of his good standing with him. You’re not “praying” to your pastor as an end point, you’re asking him to intercede on your behalf.
