Why ysk: Each country has different cultures and symbols that are often ignored. It is also a common misconception that the UK is a country, whereas it is actually made of four countries - England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Each one is different and has different governments. For further clarification, if you are referring to something as British you mean from Great Britain - the island composed of England, Scotland and Wales. Therefore, Britain is not a country either.
Hope this helps some people as I know it can be confusing :)
