[Redmi Note 7] issues with public WiFi networks

I have been using the redmi note 7 for a few weeks now and it has been a great phone so far.

Except for one problem, when I connect to any public WiFi network it will just not let me get to the login page, it will give me the login option in the notification bar but when I click it it gets me to a page that says I can't connect, with a url that is something like:

connect.rom.miui.com/generate_204

When I open up the webbrowser to go to another website I am also not redirected to a login page, it will just say im not connected and not do anything.

I can't be the only one with this problem, does anyone have a solution? I think it might have something to do with dns settings
