Were the Mobius mentally manipulated?

marked as spoiler as a just in case I guess.
I have a theory that in the process of becoming a Mobius you go insane or become evil. Something like that. Like that's the price you pay for becoming immortal.
I feel it's the only reasonable explanation behind how comically evil some of them were to the point of being irrational. And it might help explain what happened with N and maybe M.
