Like others have said, the side bits take in air so you don’t want them so close to the edges.

You could just rotate it so one of the intake sides of the Xbox is facing the open and the other would be facing the wall. Could look annoying like that though.

If not, do you have room on top of the unit ?. I have mine kind of beside the tv.
