Using VPN on Gamepass PC hides various games?

So I thought I turned off the VPN I use for work and launched the Xbox app on my PC to play some Diablo and ...no diablo? I launched the Blizzard app and had to relogin and then I realized I left it on. I turned it off, relogged the Xbox app and there it was. Repeated a few times. Any ideas why this would be a thing? I don't care in the long run, just a bit odd?
