So I have been around this game for about a year now and I have seen a few "metas" and the game in general. Some of them might come off condescending, but I don't mean it that way and am genuinely curious on the thoughts of the community. I had a few ideas, but am still no certain. (I also don't understand what makes people mad about meta.)
((Also I started scum so my perspective is brownish-green tinted.))
~Is it that the list is difficult to beat? -When I started that was brobots, but then they disapeared and I didn't see why people stopped using them? Do people get bored with meta list and that is why they drop out of the meta?
~Is it because they counter the previous king well? -If it is this then wouldn't that be healthy? Should a game of tactics and skill want something for the players to aim against and overcome?
~Is it because it is easy to use? -Do the lists have a low skill ceiling and high floor? Are there lists undiscovered that are very difficult, but worth the pay off?
~I hear a lot about people talking about the same ships that win and trying new iterations on it and using old lists that were strong, but could a person make a list their own and then practice on it enough to overcome meta list?
~Also I see a lot of people mad about the all the bomb stuff coming out, but are bombs not good against the current meta ships and if the enemy list is reliant on bombs then could ships with more handling that don't have high PS be good against them?
~Also Also I hear a lot of people complaining that it isn't about dog fighting anymore and about abilities, and I don't mean to be condescending, but doesn't that just increase the skill floor? Isn't added complexities good for the life of a game?
~Finally I know some upgrades(palp) and certain pilot abilities are really good, but is it possible to overcome these with superior flying tactics? Like instead of playing against their list, play against the opponents expectations?
Thanks for reading and don't let anyone tell you the odds!
