A case from Mulder’s past comes back to haunt him.
Mulder’s former supervisor, Reggie Purdue, contacts him regarding a jewelry store robbery in which the perpetrator left a note specifically calling Mulder out. Upon seeing the note, Mulder insists it was left by a murderer named John Barnett who he helped capture five years previously. The problem is Barnett supposedly died in prison and was cremated, but due to the nature of the original case and the fact that it was Mulder’s first, he is determined to prove Barnett is still alive, and if so how?
Overall, I think this was a fairly good episode. I think it provides some good background on Mulder as a rookie right out of the academy and shows how he can become so easily obsessive with certain cases. Barnett took his capture by Mulder extremely personal, and his targeting of the agent’s friends only fuels Mulder while Scully is placed in a precarious situation.
Blink and you'll miss CSM as the CIA agent mentioned in one scene.
Disturbing Moment: The salamander hand is kind of freaky.
