Post Body

Is there life after death? In Lazarus, that’s the million-dollar question.

While assisting with a case involving two extremely violent bank robbers, Scully watches with horror as one of the criminals shoots her colleague and ex-boyfriend, Agent Jack Willis, before putting the man, Dupre, down herself. Afterward, medics try to revive Agent Willis while unbeknownst to them the body of Dupre reacts to the defibrillator on its own. Willis survives but begins to act like Dupre. Mulder thinks there is a possibility that Dupre's consciousness is in Willis’s body, and tests the theory, which Willis fails. Eventually, Mulder’s suspicions are proven to be true when Willis abducts Scully and takes her to Dupre’s wife and partner, Lula.

This episode meshes both the body-swap concept with life after death to create an interesting premise and a decent hour of television. It’s not one of the best episodes of the series, but not the worst either. One thing that stands out is we get some good background on Scully, namely, she had a relationship with one of her instructors at the academy.

As far as relevance, the question of what happens after we die is one many of us still ask, and this episode answers that in a way only The X Files can.

Disturbing Moment: Willis/Dupre cutting the fingers off of his own corpse to retrieve his wedding ring was surely eye-raising.
