Fun MOTW episode. For the first time, the show tackles a well-known cryptid, The Jersey Devil.

In reality, the creature has been reported to look somewhat like a cross between a horse and a bat, but The X Files has a different spin on the legend.

This episode gives us a glimpse into Scully’s life outside of the bureau. Like any normal person, she has friends and loved ones, and even a social life. Mulder, on the other hand, lives only for his work, but is his obsession starting to rub off on his new partner? Possibly, considering how Scully’s date turned out. Of note, as early as this episode, a potential romance between the two leads is mentioned, but Scully is dismissive.

Nothing too deep here other than that some legends might have a more logical, but equally weird explanation.

Also, for better or worse, Mulder’s love of porn is referenced here for the first time.

Disturbing Moment: Nothing visual, but there are some mentions of human cannibalism.
