Hello! I am looking for a preferably long-term, stable roleplay partner interested in playing out some historical and political scenarios. The period I enjoy playing in is specifically the 19th century, about which I love practically everything â I love the history of the time, I love its aesthetic, I love male period clothing and facial hair styles, I love the social dynamics. Itâs immense fun to delve into trying to live out a little slice of this time about which I love learning and reading.
Me and the ideal partner: Donât worry if youâve read that and thought it to be too intimidating as, for example, your knowledge of the 19th century, its historical events and life in the period is not so extensive â thatâs completely fine! While I do require my partner to be literate and at least somewhat knowledgeable⌠My own prose couldnât be mistaken for Dostoyevskyâs nor do I have an encyclopaedia for a brain, however, I do put in effort into my writing, and attempt to inject at least some historical accuracy into the story, and expect the same.
So, top or bottom then? I am completely versatile, but for some reason, I prefer to stick to only one position for a character Iâm playing, thus I am able and enjoy writing both top and bottom characters. If you decide to reach out to me, thatâs your choice. Oh, and I do enjoy both the dynamic of an âolder top and younger bottomâ age gap duo, or two older, mature men, but not âyounger top and older bottomâ. Oh, and one more thing: we can add some dom/sub dynamic into the charactersâ relationship, but I am not particularly kinky and do not want to verge into anything that borders on being mean and cruel/passive and whiny.
Writing style: I like to write in the 3rd person, but 1st person is also doable and enjoyable. I enjoy delving into descriptions of locations or the charactersâ thoughts and feelings, and hope you do as well, considering thatâs the major advantage of writing as a medium! I am not going to give out requirements on how you must always write at least three paragraphs of text per every reply, I consider that individual and context dependent. Itâs silly to draw out a brisk conversation by detailed descriptions of lip movements⌠Just as I would dislike a situation perfectly suited to being focused on a bit more condensed into a single sentence! Letâs just be smart about it. I am also a fan of time skips and discussing and debating together often about our ideas and directions in which we would like to take the story.
Also, as is written in the title, I am hoping to focus on the story and romantic elements, rather than smut. But of course, weâll get there.
Kinks: I need to write my kinks here, which is not particularly appropriate, because I am very vanilla and donât have many kinks as such, but I will describe my preferences:
Historical settings, especially the 19th century (early or late is both good). Story elements influenced by real-life historical or political events. Masculine men. Hairy men. 19th century fashion. Facial hair from moustaches to mutton-chops to large, bushy beards. Tension build-up. Discreetness. Secretive relationship. Repression of feelings. Religious guilt. Revolutionaries. Class differences. Sophistication differences. Nationality differences. Life experience differences. Age gaps (20s and 40s, for example) or older men. Jealousy. Wholesome relationships. Messy relationships. Alcohol. Tobacco. And more⌠Â
Ideas
I'll only write some basic descriptions of prompts, which we can later discuss and make more detailed together.
The Military Academy - an accomplished officer of the Prussian army has been living an austere, career focused life as an instructor in a military academy before his life is changed by becoming the mentor of a rising star cadet with a promising future.
The Old Ways - capitalism has long before uprooted the old feudal world, but in a forgotten corner of the countryside, a traditionalist, paternalistic nobleman continues to struggle against the tide of history.
The Bohemian and his Patron - A bohemian artist struggles to break out with his passion and talent, while a no-nonsense capitalist feels something is missing in his succesful life. A common encounter changes their fates and perspectives.
The Village Teacher - an idealistic educator is sent to become a teacher at a school in an isolated mountain village, having no choice but to temporarily accomodate himself with the brusque, unsophisticated local mountaineer. Initial contempt for one another gives way to mutual respect and an unlikely romance.
(The urbanite and a rural man scenario has been attracting me for a while - other ways to do this might include a revolutionary escaping the infamous end of the 1848 risings and finding exile in the mountains, or a political agitator descending to the villages to spread revolutionary ideas among the peasants... a bit inspired by the Russian 'populists' and many other political movements at the time...)
The Adventurer - a beloved veteran and a famous explorer has settled down after having seen more of the world than most people can dream of, while getting to know a fan of his with a thirst for adventure prompts him to look at the world anew with a fresh pair of eyes.
The World of Industry - a bourgeois who has never known anything but life of comfort has his perspective altered by an unlikely connection with a politically conscious proletarian. Alternatively - champagne socialist an a sceptical working man clash.
Your ideas: Perhaps youâve noticed my ideas mostly derive from European history, which is because I myself am a continental European living in the CET time zone. If you are not European and would like to offer an idea pertaining to the history of your own country, perhaps, Iâll be glad to hear it. (And itâs fun to play as two different nationalities, both with different experiences and perspectivesâŚ) For example, Iâve long thought it could be quite fun to play out a scenario from American history, for example the Wild West or the conquest of the prairies or⌠âŚbut I am not that versed in U.S. history to initiate it myself.
If you have any ideas about other historical periods which could be interesting, let me know, perhaps Iâll like it as well. But my ultimate preference is the 19th century:)
Contact me here on reddit, whether through chat or messages, both is okay. If we are compatible, we would ultimately move over to discord. Oh, and please, be a little bit more detailed in your first message to me than just âhelloâ. Let me hear your ideas, preferences, what you are excited about, what sort of character would you like to play⌠And use the word âVictorianâ somewhere in your message;)
------------
As for the excerpt to showcase my writing, I chose the Village Teacher scenario.
The journey had been long and tiresome, and Karl Wagner was quite pleased to notice the forceful shaking of the carriage winding down, and the fading of the sound of wheels groaning and hooves clacking on gravel, the very same that had awakened the most romantic imaginations in him two days ago, but now was but another cause for the dull pain in his temples. Quite unlike the excited chatter of yesterday, he spent the last leg of the journey in silence, entertaining himself with the exquisite views offered to him by such impressive mountains as he had so far only seen in a geographical atlas. They came to a final halt and he heard the coachman jump down from his seat, walk towards the carriageâs doors, and open them. He descended the shabby step onto the muddy road and looked around. He had barely managed to properly take in freshness of mountain air and the simple but cared for village square before an unfamiliar voice disrupted him.
Â
âWelcome to Mariaberg, Herr Wagner! You can not imagine how happy we are to finally have you hereâŚâ It was the village mayor, stood next to Gustav, the local trader who divided his time between Mariaberg and Innsbruck, and who had been Karlâs travel companion from there on. Karl stepped forward and politely offered a handshake to the notable.
âIt is nice to meet you, SirâŚâ he responded with a smile.
âLikewise, Herr Wagner, likewise⌠It was so difficult to find a replacement for Herr Hochleitner⌠Not many are willing to take up a post in a place like MariabergâŚâ
âI imagine it will be a pleasant enough retreat from the rush and bustle of ViennaâŚâ
âA hard adjustment for you nevertheless, Herr Wagner, but we will do all in our power to make you stay with us a pleasant experience⌠Anything you need, it is enough to turn to meâŚâ The mayor rambled on with a nervous smile, before pointing to a crouched figure of a man on the other end of the square. âYou havenât met Josef yet, Herr Wagner, he is to accommodate you before a more suitable quarters can be found for youâŚâ
âI am sure it will be lovely,â smiled Karl, but as they approached his future host, the manâs unfriendly exterior had caused him to doubt those words. Karl was a well built man, but Josefâs stature was intimidating even for him. The impression of his scruffy face was underlined by his frowning expression. It is not good to judge a book by its cover, Karl repeated to himself, but when he stepped forth and introduced himself, Josefâs reaction wasnât particularly reassuring.
âJosef. Shepherd. Good evening.â He grumbled, the grip of his handshake too strong and forceful. Intention, or the result of a lonely, isolated life? Karl couldnât tell.
âI take it I am to live with you for the next few weeks, Herr Josef⌠Do you live around here, somewhere?â
âNo,â the man said, something like a smirk almost breaking out in his expression. âUp the hill. Half an hour of walking.â
âI seeâŚâ Karl could only bring himself to say, but before the shock could linger, Josef already turned and set out on the way. Karl quickly said goodbye to the others, and run after him.
