Two warriors from two different cultures meet. Idioms don't have to be restricted to two. They take an instant disliking to each other but for whatever reason the use words instead of fists; however an insult in one language is a compliment in another. The warriors can be human or not as long as they speak in languages each can understand. The goal is is interpretation of language.
Example:
Juliana approached him. He has a boarish look of him. He was ugly. The scars on his cheeks did little to hide his pock-marked face. He was sitting in her spot. She had heard of him and knew him to be nearly as famed as she herself was. On the battlefield she might have shown him a warrior's respect by testing his strength but the mood struck her the wrong way today.
"Hey you, son of a sheepherder, move now", she yells at him.
He looked up, to see who thought so highly of him. He had at one point dreamed of becoming a sheepherder and taking the luxurious position of power and responsibility but such positions required skills and intellect he did not have. Before him was this mountain of a woman. Nearly as tall as she was wide. Her garish color clashing was only momentarily distracting him from recognizing her. Her reputation was strong. Nearly as strong as his own. Any other such warrior he would have spit at to show his willingness to avoid the spilling of blood by offering to spill saliva instead.
"Why don't you go crush a cow with your rear end, you brightly-colored giant", he responded through gritted teeth when he remembered his environment.
She blinked momentarily caught of guard. She had heard Jacob the Longsighted was known for his battle tactics but did he see into her as well? To know her families reputation for bright colors and her status as the black sheep was jarring. The pain of disappointing her sisters just before being disowned was still with her. Even now they mocked her for taking up the outcast's profession and oftentimes refuse to acknowledge the "runt" of the family too small for a decent profession. Those words would have meant everything coming from her family. Mindful of her environment and in spite of the great compliment, she pressed on, for today she was in the mood for war not peace...
