Hello!
Hope to be a member of the jeep club here. My family is interested in getting a 4xe (Willy's specifically) and am trying to figure out if it's worth leasing or just buying/ordering.
Luckily I found a jeep nearby with the EXACT options and color we were looking to potentially order and the dealership is giving me option on leasing and buying/financing.
Lease (3 year/10k/yr) (I do plan to buyout likely):
MSRP 58.4k
Rebates: 13.25k
Downpayment:5k out the foor
Monthly payment including tax: $549 (total $19,746) (Money factor is pretty bad at 0.00399)
Residual Value 0.65: 37,973 (understand at buyout I would have to include taxes)
Overall this is roughly 62.7k in money I would have to spend from lease to buyout prior to taxes and financing on the residual at buyout.
Buying:
MSRP tax/registration =64-65k.
Financing with even 20k down at 9% would be 934 a month for 5 years (total of 56k of payments) so this would be in total between downpayment and payments 76k over the life of the vehicle (i understand i could get maybe 4k less with some rebates for purchasing so maybe 72k).
It seems like leasing then buying is the way to go since not only I am likely to pay close to atleast 8k less over the life of the vehicle buy also pay over a longer time allowing for money saved early to make money in investments if i don't like it i can sorta walk away paying roughly 23k over those 3 years. Trying to make sure I'm not falling into a trap with leasing or just wait it out until interest rates go down?
Put nothing down if leasing. If you drive off the lot and it gets totaled you lose that $5k. Just put the money aside to offset larger payment.
I too looked into leasing a 2024 willys 4xe and the numbers were just insane. Stelantis jacked the prices of all jeeps up when the Govt offered the EV tax credits and rebates. They are just pocketing that money and not really discounting the vehicles. There is no way a willys should be $60k. The one I was looking at was $63k and after lease financing the residual it was going to be closer to $70k. It's absurd . I ended uo finding a great 2020 willys with 25k miles for $37k and told the dealership to fuk off. That jeep is still sitting there 2 months later so I'm not alone in that sentiment. The new 4xe is more headache than its worth. They are price gouging consumers. It's greed.
