It doesn't quite make sense to create a taxonomy of hypnotic phenomena unless one intends to classify the experiences that are usually aimed for in the hypnotic tradition.
Such a classification can be the ideodynamic model as proposed by Erickson:
- Ideo-cognitive
- Ideo-affective or emotive
- Ideo-motor
- Ideo-sensory
However, a closer look belies that this turns out to be a taxonomy of experience. Understanding the hypnotic tradition within the context of phenomenological control, therefore, allows us a broader understanding and context of such distinctions.
However, phenomena's sought after by hypnotists and the methods they go by allowing a deeper understanding of the ways experience is modulated and created.
Some common ones are:
- Time distortion
- Regression/revivification
- Ideo-motor response (IMR) & Automatic writing
- Dissociation
- Absorbtion
- Analgesia/anaesthesia
- Amnesia/hypermnesia
- HFO
- Kinesthetic hallucination
- Non-volition
- Identity logics
