Artillery range

What determines the range an artillery vehicle can reach with their shells? I would expect this to be based on the shell velocity and weight but that does not seem to be the case. For example the hummel fires a 150 mm brisant at 420 m/s while the bishop fires a 87.6 mm brisant at 410 m/s but has half the range of the hummel.
If the range is a separate stat it should be displayed as such.
