Did General Patton really re-allocate anti-aircraft gunners to the infantry, as seen in the movie Patton?

At one point in the movie Patton, the general says he's going to get some of the anti-aircraft soldiers and put them in the infantry, as the allies have complete air superiority and the Luftwaffe isn't a significant threat at that point.
Does anyone know if this really happened? Did it turn out OK for his soldiers that they lacked anti-aircraft cover?
