I was just in a T10 match with my Lexington. Acompanying me a Hakuryu.
The game looked lost 7 minutes in as only 4 of our team remained (me, the Hakuryu and a badly battered Yamato and Cossack) and we had no caps. The enemy team at that point had 9 ships left and held 2 caps.
Both their CVs wheren't very good and the enemy surface ships decided to come at us two CVs one by one, thinking the match was over and they're just there to farm damage. Under the combined focus of two CVs (with focus callouts) one after the other surface ship fell, and since we only had 2 allies to protect we could keep fighters over them at most times, whereas the enemy CVs wheren't tactically aware enough to put fighters over whichever of their team we focused down, and they simply lemminged their strikes right into our fighter covers.
Since the enemy team took the caps late, we where not at a huge point disadvantage, so one CV (me) eventually capped the unclaimed cap, the cossack went on to take the next cap, both CVs plastered the path of Cossack to the third cap with fighters, and the last surface ships fell. The enemy midway went down under combined 2 CV focus, we got the third cap and worked the remaining enemy ship, the Lexington, over, however the points ticked out at 1000 to 850 in our favor before we could get her.
TL;DR if MM puts two potato CVs on the enemy team and gives your team two reasonable CVs, even a hopeless situation can be salvaged and victory can be assured. The skill gap is dead, long live the skill gap.
