Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started working from home and am in the process of finalizing my setup so I can tidy up the wiring. Currently, my setup includes a gaming PC on a standing desk, two mounted monitors, and the usual peripherals (keyboard, mouse, audio). However, I’m running into some logistical challenges with integrating my gaming PC, work laptop, and personal laptop into a seamless setup.
I’m hoping to get some advice on whether my current plan is solid, over-complicated, or just won’t work.
Here’s what I’m aiming for:
The main goal is to avoid juggling cables between devices, instead managing that via a switch. My gaming PC is powerful, so I plan to connect it directly to the monitors via DisplayPort to take advantage of the high refresh rate.
Here’s my brainstormed setup:
- Gaming PC: Directly connected to the two monitors via DisplayPort.
- Work Laptop (Dell Latitude 3540): Connected to the monitors through a KVM switch via USB-C and HDMI. If possible, I will split the signals across both monitors. External peripherals will be connected via USB, and the laptop will have its own dedicated power supply (no docking station needed).
- Personal Laptop (M1 MacBook Air): Connected to the KVM switch via USB-C. Since the M1 Air only supports one external monitor, I plan to use a DisplayLink adapter to split the signal between the two monitors. Peripherals and power will be provided by a USB-C docking station.
My question:
Will this setup work as I intend, or am I missing something? I’d really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or advice!
