My problem with open storages

I find kpen storages to be lacking and has awkward connections. Unlike warehouses, open storages only have 3 factory connections along with a different push/pull of contents stuff. This makes it quite hard to make huge industrial complexes i.e. wood wood - open storage - sawmill (no connection for explosives factories nor chemical plants)
Whuch mods would you recommend to remedy this?
