So I've finally dipped my toe into learning how to use Sketchup. Between this Sketchup School video, this Steve Ramsey Sketchup for woodworkers video and some searching for creating arcs, I was able to get this basic design done in two evenings.
The panels will be made with glued up pine boards. This box is going to be glued together with a few screws joining the bottom and sides (just for extra strength with the glue). The top of the sides, handle, and edges will have a 1/4" round-over added to take off the hard corners. The center divider will be 1/4 inch plywood and is for paper and cardboard from cans and bottles. The finish will be something water resistant.
I'm posting the skp file just to find out if anyone spots something I've done obviously wrong in the design.
A few things in Sketchup that I still need to learn (I'll be doing some searches on this, here as a note to self) :
- Create round-overs in the Sketchup model.
- 'Exploding' the diagram to see the individual parts.
- Adding visible measurements to the parts.
- How to define the materials for different parts.
- Auto-creating a parts list. This is going to be built from pine boards. In this case, I have to figure out the parts for the glueup of the panels and see if there's an easy way to calculate them.
