Advice needed for wood table makeover

Post Body

We got an extendable dining table from the previous owner of the house. But wife wanted it to be gone because it's larger than what we need and the color/style is outdated. Rather than giving it away for free on facebook I wanted to try to do a makeover with it. There are several things I thought about:

  1. Given it's extendable, I wanted to make it two small tables that are usable for 2 of us
  2. I will probably keep the table top only and get thinner legs from homedepot
  3. I will trim the round edge and make it a square table, and route the edges again. Also sand down the surface and get a walnut color stain

Before starting the project I'm looking for advice on whether the ideas make sense, tips that I should be careful about, or any other suggestions on the project. Thank you in advance!
