I posted over on r/woodworking but figured this is a more appropriate venue.
I plan to use stop dados 3/8โ deep to slide those two vertical pieces into the seat top. Iโll send a couple screws up through the underside of the seat to secure them. By cutting those dados, Iโm worried the seat top will be weakened and an adult wonโt be able to sit there.
Options are to sister a second piece of 13/16โ white oak underneath the seat and join it to the edges of the box (green line) or to use two vertical braces at the back (red lines). A third option is to make either just the top or the entire lower box out of 6/4 and be done with the whole thing.
Anyone have any thoughts or critiques?
