So I started a Wonderlocke about a month ago and got up to the 4th gym without a hitch, it was at that point I lost my first Pokemon, a Charmeleon, soon they started dropping like flies...

I am playing the variant of Wonderlocke where you have to catch and WT a Pokemon each time one of yours faints, this creates a challenge as you could be in Victory Road, lose all of your Pokemon and possibly get a new team of low level Pokemon.

I left it alone for a couple of weeks and have started up again. I currently have a team of Flygon, Drapion, Carnivine, Charizard, Zoroark and Vivillon. Flygon has been with me the longest and is by far the strongest out of my team. I got him as a Trapinch in my 3rd Wonder Trade and he's been going strong ever since. I got Drapion and Vivillon as fully evolved Pokemon and both are above lvl 50,

However, currently I can only use Charizard safely as I am in the middle of the ice cave and on my way to the 7th gym. It has been difficult as he has only just evolved.
