Gynecologist: AITA?

Post Body

So I should start out by saying I’m a 22 year old who went to the gynecologist a year ago.

I feel like my doctor didn’t do her job properly but idk since I’ve only had a Pap smear test twice.

I had what seemed like a nice doctor. She said her pleasantries and introduced herself, I changed clothes, the usual stuff. It was a normal check up until the Pap smear. She put in the speculum without any lube and complained I was dry. It was not comfortable inside (and probably TMI but I’ve handled worse— except usually prep).

When I explained she hadn’t exactly given me warning, she said nothing and finished up the exam. She then decided the best way to handle me was to slather a handful of lube down below before leaving the room. I felt like I had wet myself with how much she used— to the point I had to run to the bathroom to dry myself since I was literally getting a wet spot through my pants. I wish I was kidding.

Maybe I’m overreacting, but I feel really frustrated that she handled it that way. I feel it’s common sense to not shove something in without using lube before, not after. The lube after felt like either an after thought or her trying to make it better in some sense.

I’m worried I may not have knowledge on this stuff since I’m new, but I feel like she didn’t do things right. Am I over reacting and this is normal for gyno appointments or is this not normal? I’d appreciate some insight as I feel really upset after what happened.
