Significance of Rand’s archery scenes in S1E7?

Post Body

There were two scenes of Rand shooting arrows at a target. The first time, he was doing ok, but no bullseyes. The second time, he shot three bullseyes.

What was the significance of the change? There’s a possible book explanation, but I don’t want that, since I don’t recall this specific pair of scenes being in the book. (Hence, the flair.) I’m asking what was the script writer’s or showrunner’s intent for the non-book reader to get out of this.

The best I can come up with is that Rand transitioned from being troubled to being contented and calmer. I don’t think we can say he went from not channeling to channeling, because there’s no indication of that, nor did it show in his flashbacks. Is there more? Or another in-show explanation?

Edit: I’m asking why, not how.
