Floating candles in other media. Anyone know the origin of the practice?

Post Body

We just watched Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and were pleasantly surprised to see a scene in which people lit candles on little floats, sending them down river, just as in Ep1 here, also in memory of the dead.

I shouldn’t be surprised that this isn’t an original idea. Anyone know from which culture it originates?
