Thoughts on CoT
Post Body

Since I started reading the books maybe 10 months ago, every where I searched or read something, people all said that COT is a slug, or down right bad. Some had said it made them stop reading or took a long while to get through it. More than just COT, the trilogy from PoD then WH then COT. So naturally I was dreading getting to them, because I love the books and didn't want to lose that feeling.

Fast forward to 3 or so months ago and I'm reading PoD, I admit to myself that it might be somehow different in the feel but it's definitely not bad or boring. After that WH, again, it was slower paced but it wasn't bad at all, specially with how it ended.

Now to the "worst" book of the series. Maybe because my expectations were almost none, or maybe because it actually is good, I really enjoyed it. I loved all the different POVs of what people saw when Rand cleansed Saidin, because usually in books you only see these events from the POV of those present and active.

Also I loved the political parts of the story for Elayne, since I had read ASOIAF series, fell in love with the thoughts of real politics in a fantasy world. This obviously didn't have the same depth or quality, but definitely scratched that itch to a degree.

Now to Mat, I absolutely love Mat being the dumb kid, putting his foot in his mouth when talking to Tuon, his thoughts about Olver being like him. And it also is a nice change of pace from being completely dominated by Tylin.

Now to the not so great parts of it. First is Egwene, I think her story is moving way too slowly, like a whole book passes with them just moving next to Tar Valon and deciding to block the harbor. At least it has a promising end with her being kidnapped.

Now to the worst part of it. Even though I'm saying worst, it's compared to other parts of the book. Story of Perrin. This is the part that I had the biggest problem reading through. The problem is not exactly with the story itself, but with the character of Perrin acting like a dumb child, he was always a bit child like I think, but he was smart. But here it seems like he has become stupid. Also wtf is Berelain's problem? It's so unrealistic to try and flirt with someone who has lost his wife and looking for her desperately. Reading those parts I was getting mad at Jordan, Berelain, and anyone involved. He always had problems writing for girls and women, but he had improved a lot, but this part is very idiotic, because Jordan's trying his hardest to tell us that Berelin is a good guy, responsible, mature. But then with Perrin she acts like an unrealistic teenager.

If you read all the way through, thank you for keeping up with my ramblings. These were all the thoughts that I had to get out, and don't have anyone else to talk to.

I would love to hear your experience with CoT and the storylines that are wrapping up in KoD.
