My depression is going wild these days and many days I just want to turn on the TV or a podcast (sometimes read a book) and do nothing else. I've caught myself looking for media that involves awesome, interesting, unique main characters. This weekend I watched "Hidden Figures", the movie about the awesome WoC of NASA in the 60s. And I really liked it! And I also finally watched "I'm not okay with this" and I'm definitively not okay that it was canceled!
So I would love to hear your recommendations! I don't care if it's fiction or non-fiction series, biography, journalistic podcasts, fantasy books - as long as it's not the same old story of some cis white dudes saving the day - because I'm already depressed enough.
And because it's a give and take, recommendations I have on my mind right now:
"You are wrong about": one of my favourite podcasts. Actually I read about it in this sub and think it's very well known. It's about reconsidering "an event, person or phenomenon thatโs been miscast in the public imagination."
"Harsh reality" was a podcast I really liked because I've never heard about this: In the early 2000s there was a dating show that featured a trans woman. The podcasts talks about her, her life and the consequences after the big "revelation".
"Feminist shelf control" (Unfortunately in German): Two authors I like just started this podcast. They read a "MAGA hat romance" ("Ladies first") and talk about it and I was giggeling for 3 hours.
Someone in this sub recommended "Wheel of time" as a series with strong women and I agree and liked it.
"Doctor Who" is one of my all time favourite shows and always cheers me up (except for the episodes that are sad AF - looking at you Vincent van Gogh)
I really like "Hilda" an animated series about a girl that is very adventurous and a little witch IMO
I was surprised how much I liked "Beforeigners" a norwegian series: People from the past show up in todays Oslo. A viking woman becomes the first police detective with "multitemporal background".
What do you recommend? I'm so curious! TIA!
