wireguard gui through network-manager-gnome

would really like to control wireguard through the gnome network manager...
a thread here stated that the conf file can be loaded through the network manager:

i'm running debian. whats' the minimum version network manager required?
is it referring to wirguard's original conf or some other tailored conf file?
