Roads/Driving Advice.

So I have a friend visiting from Netherlands who wants to go to Winnipeg Beach and maybe Heckla Island tomorrow in a rent -a-car. I personally don't have much driving experience, but I'm concerned he may not know how to drive in the snow and we have snow predicted tonight. He says he has driven in snow a couple of times, but not as much snow or icey roads like Winnipeg. Should we go?
