Just received an email from Cru about pre-orders for their 2021 Burgundy EP campaign.
The latest Burgundy En Primeur campaign is, as always, somewhat of an unknown as to when the first wines are going to be released. So, with this year's campaign ready to start at a moments notice we're encouraging all Cru clients to take the opportunity to Pre-Order their desired wines from last years' vintage to avoid disappointment.
Scrolling through the list and there are quite a few wines that take my fancy. Based on the limited information I've read I think it will be a "good" rather than "great" vintage, but there are definitely some interesting opportunities, particularly if they release at the lower end of the price range (which is a very big if!).
Did anyone else get the same email? Are there any particular wines that will be on your shopping list this season?
Personally I'm looking at big name producers in big name appellations for investment purposes (for example I think Hudelot-Noellat Nuits-St-Georges "Les Murgers" is a good bet at anything less than £100/bottle). On the other hand, for drinking I am looking at smaller producers in less well known areas. The Côte Chalonnaise has some great wines, so Faiveley's Mercurey "Clos du Rois" at say £180/6 looks like a great buy which would be worth cellaring for 3-5 years.
