Hello Everyone:
I am trying to get my SQL Server as up to date as possible and on my Windows Server 2003 R2 box that runs SQL Server 2005 I get an error during the upgrade to SP2 that "This application cannot by opened as it is blocked by software restriction policies" or something along those lines. Additionally, MSIInstaller posts an error 11260 which reads as follows:
The description for Event ID ( 11260 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Product: Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English) -- Error 1260. Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, open Event Viewer or contact your system administrator.
, (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), (NULL), , .
No where in my environment are Software Restriction Policies deployed. At this point I've uninstalled MSI 4.5. I want to re-install MSI 4.5 as it is a prerequisite to an update for a program that is also going to be installed but I don't know what update is causing this issue so if anyone knows what update number(s) for MSI 4.5 I need to avoid that would be helpful.
Well... Update: Turns out uninstalling MSI 4.5 allows the SP2 install for SQL 2005 to continue installing, but I don't necessarily know what side-effects that'll have later down the line. As such, as soon as everything else completes, I plan to re-install MSI 4.5 but I plan to rebuild my VMWare image to avoid whatever updates are causing this.
