How to fix crashing after a recent update?

Post Body

Two or three weeks ago I had updated all of my drivers and made sure I do my windows updates. I’m not the best at staying current on those.

After updating my pc started crashing randomly and it would throw these two messages:

  • VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL
  • VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE

I tried uninstalling the recent updates and was able to do most of them but one in particular kept failing to uninstall. The crashing gradually got worse to the point it was crashing within seconds of entering my password after my pc would reboot.

The advanced troubleshooting option eventually showed up and suggested I reset my pc. I’ve done this in the past for different reasons so I felt comfortable doing this again but my pc was crashing before it could complete the reset. I can’t remember what I did exactly, the past few weeks have been infuriating, but I was able to finally reset my pc.

Everything was working pretty smoothly for a few hours and then it crashed again giving the TDR Failure message. It’s this message 9/10 times. I went and looked at the updates and saw there were several installed recently. I uninstalled the first one, changed my settings to not auto update, restarted my pc, and this has improved the performance some more but my PC will still crash and throw the TDR message. My PC never used to do this, it wasn’t until after updating my drivers.

I still have some of the other updates to uninstall, but I’m worried this is a bandaid on a broken leg type of thing. Will uninstalling the rest of those updates fix this, if so, how do I move forward with updating my drivers and not having this problem? And if I uninstall the rest of the updates, and it doesn’t work, what would my next steps be? I’m not very pc savy and this is the most trouble I have had with my pc. Advice would certainly be appreciated.
