Intro
For a long time, I've used several tweaks, modifications, and other customization to improve on Windows 10 in the ways I felt it needed. I use Windows 10 all the time, and as an advanced user, several of these tweaks have made my daily usage of the OS so much better.
What it contains
This is a zip file which contains several tweaks, as well as a few recommended programs, and their associated sources (website shortcuts). Some tweaks contain .reg and/or .bat files and are clearly marked as such. As modifying the registry can be harmful, please ensure you are aware of the dangers involved. Some of these tweaks have non-registry alternatives in their linked articles.
Tweaks (and etc)
- Add a Command Prompt (either regular or administrator) entry to the context (right-click) menu.
- Add a "Copy path" entry to the context menu to copy a file/folder's path.
- Launch Windows Explorer windows in a separate process.
- Make Windows Update download updates, but wait for user to manually start installation.
Microsoft PowerToys (Program recommendation)
- I recommend reading Microsoft's documentation on it here.
- If you use large displays, such as a 4K display, "FancyZones" allows for custom window snapping. It is AMAZING. It also can remember snapped windows, in some cases fixing the bug where a disconnecting/reconnecting monitor can cause your windows to move.
Open Windows Explorer to "This PC" instead of "Quick Access."
Restore Windows Photo Viewer.
Display seconds in the taskbar's clock.
Start Menu Shortcuts/Tiles
- Shortcut to the classic Sound panel.
- Custom tile to the Networking & Sharing Center.
- Custom tile for Windows Update.
- (I used to have a native tile for this in Win10. If anyone can figure how to do that natively again, please let me know!)
Win X Menu changes (alternatively right-click the start menu)
- Add Control Panel to Win X menu.
- Change Powershell entries to Command Prompt in Win X menu.
- Replace "Apps and Features" with original "Programs and Features" in the Win X menu.
Other Recommended Programs
(Website shortcuts to sources only; mostly for those who haven't heard of these)- 7-Zip
- CPU-Z
- HWiNFO
- Notepad
- VLC Media Player
- WinDirStat (Windows Directory Statics)
- "How to compare the right free (or paid) antivirus software" Shortcut/Explanation text file
- Explains how to compare antivirus software with AV-Comparatives and gives some thoughts on the matter, for any whom it may benefit.

Additional thoughts
I hope these can improve at least someone's Windows 10 experience, and if you have any articles you can share with similar tweaks, please do share them. I love constantly improving my Windows 10 experience, especially as it's supposedly going to be "the final Windows release," now leaning to Apple-like OS updates.
Additionally, as far as the includes reg/bat files go, while I did run this by the subreddit mods, I openly invite anyone to compare and vet the associated files to be the same as those provided by their sources.
Finally, if this has helped you at all, I've love to hear that it was worth the effort putting together. Also if you have any questions, I'll do my best to accommodate, though I absolutely recommend checking associated sources for tweaks as many of the authors are brilliant and have covered things well.
