Can a wifi adapter cause updates to not install?

I moved to a new house and had to set up my desk away from an ethernet port, so my computer is using a USB wifi adapter. (my pc doesn't have the ability to connect to wifi) However, since using the adapter, Windows has failed to install two updates multiple times each. Could it be the adapter that is causing this?
