I wasn't defending his actions, and never said what he did was ok. All I was saying was we do not know what happened before this. Did she assault him? Steal from him? Tell him he was ugly and his mother was a prostitute? Do these people know each other and this is a repeated problem? I know that none of that justifies him hitting her, but the context is not given. Is there more to the story than this short video shows?
Also, the second paragraph is what all of the bystanders did to the guy. He was on the ground, they were kicking and punching him, so they went well beyond defending the woman at that point as well. Did he deserve it? Probably, but in the eyes of the law, they had stopped him already, and did not need to continue.
