There are a few orphaned skunks in my yard, and they've been there since yesterday. I say they're orphaned bc, based on the research I've done, a baby skunk separated from a parent for more than a few hours or overnight should be assumed to be an orphan. They're old enough their eyes are opened and can walk ok, but they're pretty clumsy and clearly not ready to fend for themselves. They do not seem to be injured.
I called both wildlife rehabs in my area and neither can take them at this time. I was advised that I can feed them (and gave some advice on appropriate foods), or call the county to remove and euthanize them. They did not make a recommendation as to which to do.
I'd rather they not be killed, but would absolutely be prepared to have them euthanized if the alternative is them slowly dying in my yard. I'm happy to set out food, and have already done so, but even if it were feasible to raise a skunk indoors (based on what the internet says, it's not), I have a dog so that seems impossible.
I'm calling another wildlife rehab tomorrow but this is stressing me out. What is the correct course of action here? I would especially appreciate advice from people who could give me a realistic assessment of whether just setting out food is likely to be enough for them to survive.
