Tent for the Arctic - Hilleberg Allak 3 or other options? Tent color considerations?
Post Body

I moved to northern Norway and after a mold disaster with my current tent (I learned my lesson) I’m investing in a new tent.

I’ll mostly camp with my husband and dog in 3 seasons, but in the Arctic/northern Nordics above treeline in many cases. After too many weeks of going down tent rabbit holes, I have my eyes on the Hilleberg Allak 3 due to its durability, 2 entrances, space and ventilation - and flexibility in also serving as a winter tent. Only downfall is it’s quite heavy for backpacking.

There are 3 color options - dark green, red and sand. On one popular outdoor gear website, they’re selling the green tent for ~$300 cheaper than the other colors - but there’s no sale, it’s just cheaper. That tempts me to buy that color to save money…but is there a reason it’s cheaper than the others? On one hand, maybe the dark color gets unbearably hot on warm days. On the other - maybe the dark color is good for sleeping under the midnight sun? Does anyone have color advice, especially if you own this tent?

Although I’m getting my heart set on the Allak 3, I’m open to other tent suggestions. This is a very big investment for me, and I want to make a good decision.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice!
