Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Hopefully I have time to read and respond to everyone, but I wanted to first take the time to thank everyone for all the great advice.
I guess I should start with a little about myself, I'm average white male around 40 years old, 5'9 ~160lbs. I was raised in the Indiana woods but displaced by the military. I'm planning a weekend stay on one of the islands in a lagoon near where I live. Camping is free, first come first serve basis. Heavily trafficked area for boats, people will likely be on the nearby islands and I will have cell reception. I'll be checking the weather and I shouldn't have to worry about the tide in a lagoon but that's a guess. My first question is what are my concerns for being on a small island alone?
I am planning on hiking or biking to the dock and using an inflatable Kayak to find an island. I'm going to bring minimal food but it's less than 4 days so if I don't catch any fish I won't die. I am not planning on bringing a gun on this trip because it seems unpractical to use on this trip and risk of losing in the water. Is that naive of me?
List of items thus far:
One tarp, tent, Sleeping bag, fishing tackle, flint, folding shovel, folding saw, multi fixed blade knives, 18" machete, medical kit(w/ whistle, radio, flashlight, scissors etc.,) , 1-person inflatable Kayak w/ hand pump & paddle. I'll have 1 gallon of water per day as well as 1 cup of rice and 1 cup of beans per day.
Can you think of anything I am missing for my trip or anything I should be aware of for the local area? Feel free to drop your opinion and please say what you want to say. Planning on doing this next month, probably over veterans day weekend.
