I’m looking for a 3-5 day backpacking trip in Texas or in one of the bordering states for me and one of my friends to go on this winter (beginning-late December). We are both Eagle Scouts so we are both physically fit and have good experience in hiking. I know there aren’t many places to go hiking in Texas outside of Big Bend and the lake Georgetown hike which we have already done. Are there any well kept trails that won’t bog us down to bad around that time in December. I’m worried that if we go up to New Mexico in the mountains we will get a lot of snow but how bad is it usually around that time.
If you have any recommendations, if you have experience on that trail I would greatly appreciate it if you added what are some looked over essentials, things I won’t need that I might need on other trails, if there are any poisonous plants, venomous animals, or any body’s of water that can’t be filtered.
If you have any other questions about our comfortability in hiking, how far we are willing to go in terms or traveling and hiking distance, or anything in between feel free to ask.
