I've retired from teaching and am slowly getting into the swing of things (taking my 17-year-old camping, restoring furniture, running/climbing). BUT - I'm thinking of taking a backpacking trip - a chance to go walkabout and clear my head - and I'm soliciting ideas for where to go.
What to know about me:
-Living in NYC.-Have backpacked/canoed trips lasting 1-2 weeks (Boundary Waters, Adirondacks, Sierras - Europe as a kid).- Getting back into backpacking after several years off.
Guidelines:
- Thinking 5-7 days. Solo.- Looking for remote, gobsmacking scenery. Something I haven't seen before?- Open to taking a flight and renting a car if cost and ease are reasonable.- Probably not international - does Canada count? :P- Not looking for high mileage or crazy vert.
Well, there you have it. What do you suggest?
Thanks!
Edit: I've been reading your suggestions. My heart is racing (my daughter just texted from school to tell me to save the WA trip for her!). Some (e.g., Tetons, Wind River) may require more planning than I have time for, but are on my to-do list. Iceland and Ontario have caught my fancy. Gotta do some deep-breathing exercises and then get to planning! Thank you all!!
